 BISMILLAH IREHMAN NIRAHIM

Assalamualikum,

Stem Cells Make Mouse Myelin

stem cells

Our body of stem cell
science keeps growing

Scientists have used human stem cells to repair the damaged spinal cords of paralyzed mice.

The scientists, working at the University of California, Irvine, injected stem cells from the human nervous system into mice they had paralyzed nine days earlier. Four months later, the mice could use their hind legs normally again. To prove that the stem cells did the healing, the scientists later injected a toxin that killed off the human cells, and the mice were paralyzed again.

This isn't the first time scientists have used stem cells to repair rodent spines. But it's a step farther than researchers have gone before. The researchers expected the fetal neural stem cells they injected to form new nerve cells in the mice. But they also formed oligodendrocytes, a type of cell that forms myelin, and that's all new.

What's myelin? And why does it matter? Myelin is an insulating coating, or sheath, around your nerve fibers. It's critical to those fibers' ability to conduct electrical signals, through which your nervous system delivers messages around your body. Diseases that mess with myelin, such as multiple sclerosis, cause sensory and motor problems--and can even lead to paralysis. If new treatments could make new myelin, that could be as important as making nerve cells themselves.

Singing Sands Stump Science

sand dunes

Did you know I can sing?

Believe it or not, sand dunes can sing. And stumped scientists want to know how.

A 9th-century Chinese manuscript tells of a time when people "would climb Mt. Ming-Sha-Shan and slide together down the sand. The sound made by the sliding was like the rolling of thunder." Marco Polo, crossing the Gobi Desert in the 13th century, heard singing sands, too, which filled the air "with the sounds of all kinds of musical instruments, and also of drums and the clash of arms." Even Charles Darwin puzzled over sand music in Chile.

The music, which only about 30 dunes in the entire world make, can be heard for miles and sound as loud as a low-flying airplane. Songs can last for as long as 15 minutes.

Now, scientists are getting closer to explaining the mystery. French scientists have discovered that grains of singing sand are different from ordinary ones. They're round, with a smooth coating of silicon, iron, and manganese. With this coating, even small amounts of sand can sing. But once it wears away, the sand loses its voice.

Scientists suspect that during sand avalanches, the cascading grains jostle each other and vibrate at a synchronized frequency. Soon the whole face of the dune vibrates in step like the membrane of a gigantic loudspeaker, producing a low, unearthly tune. And unearthly may be exactly right. Astronomers and geologists believe that the sands of Mars may be even more alive with the sound of music than the singing sands of Earth.

Hear the sand sing

or sailed an uncharted land, or opened a new doorway for the human spirit."

Site of the Week:
To Infinity and Beyond!

In January 2004, President Bush told NASA to "explore space and extend a human presence across our solar system." The first goal: put humans back on the moon by 2020.

This week, NASA unveiled its plan to make President Bush's 2020 vision a reality--and put up a fabulous website designed to tell you how NASA's rocket scientists plan to get it done. Check out the site, including the video of four astronauts riding a rocket to the moon.

But don't be surprised if the technology looks old hat. NASA administrator Mike Griffin calls the plan "Apollo on steroids" and won't apologize for dusting off what worked more than three decades ago. Says Griffin, "The physics of atmospheric entry haven't changed recently."

[SU] WHAT KIND OF EMPLOYEE ARE YOU?

WHAT KIND OF EMPLOYEE ARE YOU?

Aries Employee Profile

Aries employees make excellent troubleshooters. They'll usually want to be
out in the field at a variety of different work sites fixing things. They
certainly won't be happy for very long behind a desk in a 9 to 5 schedule.

The bored Aries employee who has been forced into a square hole will
typically be restless, angry, and careless with details. No amount of money
would compensate for being stuck in a routine job. Money in fact isn't why
they are working at all.

They do want to be paid fairly and need a status position to satisfy their
competitive tendencies but even more importantly, they'll want challenging
new projects. They typically like to have a sense of responsibility and need
to feel needed. In return, they'll give their all and provide detailed,
consistent work. They will literally work themselves to exhaustion to prove
themselves.

If you want to keep your Aries co-worker productive and happy, you'll want
to give them the opportunity to work independently or let them help and lead
less experienced workers.

Taurus Employee Profile

Taureans make some of the best employees. They are loyal, hardworking, and
no-nonsense. They work methodically and follow projects through until they
are complete. Some may appear to work a little too slowly-usually because
they are so careful-but they will always finish what they start. They thrive
on structure, schedules, and routine. You'll find them doing the same exact
thing at the same time every day.

Taureans, however, are not exactly the malleable workers that they often
appear to be. If they have to work in a chaotic environment, they won't be
happy and will be prone to child-like temper tantrums and stubbornness. They
might react similarly if they have to work around ignorant people or at a
job where there is no obvious potential for advancement.

Taureans will be very unhappy if there isn't a ladder for them to climb.
Even in the worst situations, they will find a way to advance slowly,
winning over the most difficult people who may stand in their way of
progress.

Taurus employees will only take so much patiently and happily before they
feel they are being taken advantage of. They will gladly accept orders and
do whatever dirty work needs to get done, but they expect rewards. They want
material gain, salary increases, and the potential for more power.

To make your Taurus employees happy, be sure to give them projects through
which they will see tangible results-hopefully something that will allow
them to express their unique creativity in addition to their practical side.
They don't want to feel mired in details for long periods of time.

Make sure to schedule regular performance and salary reviews. This show of
respect should keep them loyal to the company.

Gemini Employee Profile

Gemini employees can have difficulty concentrating on one thing for long
periods of time. They have quick-moving minds and love to talk and
communicate their ideas with others. They thrive on social interaction, even
if their jobs don't particularly support it. You'll be able to find them
wandering from desk to desk gossiping about all the sordid news in the
office. They can be powerful persuaders in their speech and make ideal
salespeople and mediators. They love to negotiate and can work out the best
Deal for everyone involved.

When properly stimulated, they can manage to keep their wandering mind
focused and actually be quite productive. When they are bored, bogged down
with mundane detail work, or forced to work with people who they consider
droll, they can become mean-spirited and gossipy. Their moods can fluctuate
vastly day to day, as well as their productivity.

It is really against their nature to be forced into an average workday
schedule and environment. They are happier traveling. lf they are in an
office they will need constant new stimulation. Most will be wanting
advancement if they see this as a way to escape the limitations of their
jobs. This can motivate them to put extra effort into their job. If you work
with a Gemini, try to avoid getting into any debates with them - they will
surely win and it could end in some hard feelings on your part. They will
need an accepting environment-one that supports their need for
multi-tasking.

Cancer Employee Profile

The Cancer employee isn't at work to feed their ego, their job is just a job
and a means to get paid. They work steadily and are usually very reliable.
You'll be able to depend on them to show up on time and do what is
necessary. They won't get involved in power struggles or get upset when
someone advances before them. They are able to accept the situation because
they see it simply as a rung on the ladder up. Their motivation is security.

They'll want more money the longer they've stayed at a job. They don't want
to have to worry about how they'll make ends meet tomorrow so they'll need a
stable position without much risk. Cancerian workers can slip into some dark
moods on occasion.

During these periods productivity tends to drop-as well as everyone else's
in the office. Their moods can be so strong everyone becomes affected. To
avoid the frequency of these occurrences, managers and co-workers should try
to make the work environment as homey as possible-keep it well heated, cozy,
and friendly. Don't press them to reveal their true inner thoughts-their
tendency is to be secretive and protective, and they could see prying as an
attempt to disturb their security.

Leo Employee Profile

Leo workers want to be first and at the center of the office. Even if they
can't lead, they'll look for every opportunity to increase their own status
-- and if someone else seems ahead of them, look out. They will make it
clear that they aren't happy by pouting and complaining. They want
advancement so much that they'll take on more responsibility and carry a
heavier load than anyone else does in the office. And they are
self-promoters. It is likely that they are telling everyone in the office
what a great job they are  doing as well as giving everyone unwanted advice.

They know they are superior and want everyone to know it as well. This
arrogance can sometimes cause problems when working with management. But
typically, they are just hard workers out to demonstrate just how good they
really are.

They thrive in sales positions - they can promote a product or company just
as well as they promote themselves. Their strength and arrogance isn't just
show either. In a crisis situation, Leos really demonstrate their true
courage. Leos want to lead and will be pushing for more responsibility and
rewards. They are happy to train and mentor new co-workers as they enjoy
giving advice and being in positions of authority.

If you are trying to manage a Leo employee, you'll need to give them plenty
of praise, responsibility, and independence. They will certainly want to
help lighten your load of management responsibilities. Just be careful- the
next thing you know they could be taking over your job.

Virgo Employee Profile

In the right situations Virgos love to work. They make ideal emloyees,
happily working late into the night to make sure everything is perfect and
in order. If you are looking for an employee who doesn't mind starting from
rock bottom in the most entry-level position at the company, hire a Virgo.

They'll have no complaints about the position being beneath them. They are
CONTENT with basic, honest hard work. Their contentment isn't always
apparent, however. They love to complain and worry. They are quick to
criticize the way things are done around the office and are the first ones
to grumble disapprovingly at what they consider to be extravagance or
laziness. They are blunt and honest and don't mince words over what they
feel just isn't right.

Usually, this will be brought on by someone doing a half-baked job or not
being considerate of other co-workers. You'll want to constantly reassure
them, but this will do little to quell their anxieties. They actually enjoy
worrying, and there is little you can do about it. Just give them a detail -
oriented project and let them work alone on it. You won't have to supervise
a Virgo worker. They'll check all the facts before getting started and catch
their own errors when they are done.

To keep a Virgo employee happy, you should also make sure their environment
is orderly and calm. You should also provide small gestures of appreciation.
They don't need extravagance, just let them know you appreciate them in
small ways that won't embarrass them. They will probably just shrug their
shoulders and say, "It's no big deal." But deep down inside they need these
little reassurances.

Libra Employee Profile

Libra employees are detailed, dedicated workers with sensitive natures.
Managers and co-workers sometimes find them difficult to get a handle on.
They pick up the energy of the office and are unable to prevent it from
affecting them. Loud noise, flashy colors, and discordant vibrations will
put them off so much that they will have difficulty fulfilling their
obligations at work.

One day they may seem like the most bright, hardworking, ambitious employee
around. The next day they might be down, irritated, and unable to produce.
Co-workers shouldn't fret when Libra employees are in a dark mood. It really
won't last, as a happy state of mind can come over them just as quickly.
When Libra employees are in a balanced frame of mind, they can be a powerful
presence at work-they have a way of gracing everything they touch.
Underneath that mess of moods, they really are basically happy and stable
people. They are capable of profound logical thought and evaluate all sides
of a situation before acting. They are one of the most intelligent Signs
around.

They are expert researchers and mediators. And their sensitivity to their
environment makes them naturals at keeping things looking great. They will
easily help others resolve conflicts and can act as a go-between with
workers and management so that everyone ends up happy. If you want to keep
your Libran worker smiling, give them the respect they are due and put them
in a position where they can project their great charm and diplomacy. They
won't be CONTENT to take orders for very long, either make sure they are
given increased responsibility.

Scorpio Employee Profile

Scorpio employees usually exude a quiet self-confidence. They are
self-sufficient and do not depend on others for a sense of self-worth. They
keep their private life separate from work and take complete responsibility
for their actions and their situation.

They don't make excuses; they just take care of business and expect everyone
else to do the same. Those who don't, co-workers and managers- will have to
endure the Scorpio wrath. They don't mind being completely vocal about what
they feel is wrong with any given situation. And if you tread on their fire
be sure to expect retaliation. They won't take insults or opposition lying
down.

If you manage a Scorpio employee, be sure to follow through with your word
and don't break any promises-Scorpio is keeping track and building up some
heavy resentments against you if you do. You may not even be aware of it
until too late-but when Scorpio gets too much, you'll be sure to know.

Scorpio employees will react towards those around them exactly as they are
treated. When they get what they want, they will be very accepting. If you
are trying to work with or motivate a Scorpio co-worker, be sure to treat
them respectfully and act professionally. Give them challenging work that
allows them to utilize their awesome self-confidence and courage.

Sagittarius Employee Profile

The Sagittarian employee is head strong, cheerful, and willing to help. They
exude self-confidence and take on tasks like there's no tomorrow. They are
willing to tackle even the toughest of projects as long as it is challenging
and gets them out of the routine. Lucky for them, their shining
personalities and honest enthusiasm seem like a bright spot in the office
otherwise co-workers might begin to build animosity towards someone so
arrogant and extravagant.

Their tendency to exaggerate and take on more then they can handle usually
results in missed deadlines and dropping the ball-not because they are lazy
of procrastinate, but because their enthusiasm just gets the better of them
sometimes.

Don't let their nonchalance fool you-they really do care about what they are
doing. They just have an easy-going attitude that allows them to keep on
smiling even when they just messed up big time. Just because they are
flexible and easy-going doesn't mean they won't tell you exactly how they
feel-what is working for them and what isn't. And they won't just blindly
take orders, they need to understand the method and reason behind the
process.

If you are trying to motivate your Sagittarian employee, be sure to feed
them plenty of challenging new projects and hint that some business trips
might be on the horizon once deadlines are met. And whatever you do, try not
to question their intentions it is the quickest way to make them upset. They
aren't capable of deceit.

Capricorn Employee Profile

A Capricorn employee with too much to do is a happy worker. They need plenty
of projects and responsibility. There is no sadder sight than a Capricorn
worker without a sense of responsibility. They need to be needed. They are
covertly ambitious - usually not flashy or obvious about it-but you will
usually know that they are serious and determined about advancing
themselves.

They are completely scrupulous, so much so that they can be
self-disparaging. But they are no pushovers. They can wear down even the
toughest customers. Their persistence is incredible. Once they set their
sights on a goal, they work away at it until the bitter end-whether the goal
be that hard sell or the new hardware release.

Capricorns don't work for free, however. They expect to be paid handsomely
and be given more and more responsibility. They need to come out ahead of
the pack in the end, and they see the work environment as their primary
vehicle. They won't go in for the typical office gossip and politics,
though.

They want to get down to business at work and see it as no place for fooling
around. With a strong sense of duty and respect towards their superiors, it
is rare they will join in on boss-bashing or knocking the system. They can
get frustrated, however, with blue sky management schemes that lack common
sense, and they will interject their dry sense of humor in the most critical
ways. If they want change, they will be unyielding. If all their effort
leads to naught the result will be deep moods of darkness and depression
with a sense of hopelessness.

Keep your Capricorn employee happy by paying them fairly and giving them
plenty of hard work. Arrange for a path of advancement within your
organization for them. If you don't, you might find them looking for other
opportunities.

Aquarius Employee Profile

The Aquarius employee can't tolerate unfairness in the office. Hair brained
schemes will get the positive attention they deserve if an Aquarian has
anything to do with it. They'll try to help everyone see the good side of a
bad situation if it's the last thing that they do. They are so smart-they
can't help but hold management in disdain if they feel that they are being
unfair and unintelligent. It isn't that they are overly ambitious and think
they could be doing a better job- just that they think people in power
should know better.

Most Aquarius workers are still looking for themselves and will want to try
their hand at a variety of jobs in the workplace. Whatever they are doing,
they will do conscientiously. They usually have strict personal codes that
include a strong work ethic. Their bright, off-beat intelligence, and
trustworthiness will typically gain them many friends-in and out of work.

Beneath that sometimes odd-ball behavior is solid, concrete thinking and
sensitivity to co-workers. Keep your smart Aquarius co-worker happy by
giving them plenty of opportunity to learn new skills. Raises are less
important to them. No amount of money will make it worth their while to stay
in a stagnant position. Don't let them get too bored or they will simply
find another job as easily as they found this one-their genius is easy to
spot.

Pisces Employee Profile

The Pisces employee can be a loyal and hard-working, if unconventional,
worker. In the right position, they are able to keep their daydreams in
check and buckle down on the detail work-giving their all to the boss and
corporation whom they feel are worthy of devotion.

On the flip side, there is no image of extreme misery like that of an
ill-placed Pisces worker. They will act as though their cubicle were a
prison cell as they daydream of their own business or next vacation.

Unhappy Pisces workers usually won't stick around too long. Often Pisceans
will drift from one job to another looking for that ideal environment to
which they will be able to commit and feel a sense of purpose. And if things
are going in a bad direction at the office, Pisces will be the first to
sense it. They'd rather pick up and leave then wait until the problem
reaches a head. Pisces are often misunderstood by their co-workers.

Typically timid and introspective, they usually keep their true nature
hidden, for fear it wouldn't fit with the corporte culture. What motivates a
Pisces employee to not only stick around but also excel? Try compliments.
And show them how their work impacts the entire organization.

They need to know that what they are doing is worth something on a grander
scale. Acceptance of their unconventional organization and planning will be
necessary.

Just because their sales report isn't in the typical format doesn't mean it
is any less effective. Keep their environment bright and upbeat; and an
after-work cocktail wouldn't hurt.

[SU] Pakistan's Youhana embraces Islam

Last Updated: Monday, 19 September 2005, 12:44 GMT 13:44 UK
Pakistan's Youhana embraces Islam
Yousuf Youhana
Youhana was the only Christian on the Pakistan team
Pakistani cricket star Yousuf Youhana says he has converted to Islam from Christianity after attending preaching sessions by a leading religious group.

Youhana, who now calls himself Mohammed Yousuf and was the only Christian in the team, says his wife also converted with him about three months ago.

But he says they did not make their decision public for family reasons.

Reports in Pakistan say his parents are furious while Yousuf says he wants the rest of his family to convert too.

"I don't want to give Yousuf my name after what he has done," his mother was quoted as saying by the Daily Times newspaper.

"We came to know about his decision when he offered Friday Prayers at a local mosque. It was a shock," his mother was reported as saying.

I cannot tell you what a great feeling it is
Yousuf Youhana

He moved out of his parents' house when they came to know about his decision but has since moved back.

A Pakistani television channel showed him offering prayers along with other members of the Pakistan cricket team including skipper Inzamam ul Haq.

Life 'ruined'

Mohammed Yousuf's mother says she had been worried about her son's behaviour for a long time.

She blamed the brother of a former Pakistan cricket player, Saeed Anwar, for "ruining my son's life," according to the Daily Times.

Saeed Anwar and his brother have become Muslim preachers who preach from the platform of Tablighi Jamaat - Pakistan's largest non-political religious grouping.

Yousuf confirmed that he was a regular at the preaching sessions held by the Tablighi Jamaat.

But he told journalists that he had converted of his own free will and there was no pressure on him to do so.

"I cannot tell you what a great feeling it is," he told the BBC.

Officials in the Pakistan cricket board say members of the Tablighi Jamaat have been visiting the board's offices and training camps regularly over the last several years.

Most of the team members have become overtly religious over the last few years, the official said.

RE: [SU] Islam about 'liking' other girls.
asalam u alaikum

well brother whatever your heart says is right in the western society its
difficult to live in these situations like yours but if you live according
to the teachings of islam the reward is great.  anyway if i was you i will
only approach a girl if i want to marry her or i want to gain
knowlege.  in
your situation read aozu billah 3 times and read lahaola wala qowata
complete 3 times and blow on you and pray to allah to give you strength to
subside those feelings and concentrate on your studies.  so keep away
do the
rightful things if you approach her today it can end up in the against
islam
islam situation which is unforgiveable. i pray to our ALLAH TABARAK
WATALLAH
to give you strenth to do right things.

[SU] Abdul Sattat Edhi

 BISMILLAH IREHMAN NIRAHIM

Assalamualikum,

Dr Abdul Sattar Edhi, or Maulana Edhi, as he is often known, is one of the most active philanthropists in Pakistan. He is head of the Edhi Foundation. His wife Bilquis Edhi, heads the Bilquis Edhi Foundation. They both received 1986 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service. He is also the recipient of the Lenin Peace Prize. Maulana Edhi, as he is often referred to, is of the Memon community.

Early Life
Abdul Sattar Edhi was born in 1928 in Bantva in the Gujarat state India. His father was a textile trader and earned a modest income for his family. He was a natural born leader and would encorage his friends to hold tiny circuses and perform gymnastics for the locals. When his mother would send him to school she would give him two paisa, one to spend for himself and the other to spend for another. At the age of eleven he started to care of his mother who suffered paralysis from severe diabetes. From an early age Edhi learned to help others before himself, this would be crucial to success in his life later on.

Starting Up
In 1947 his family moved to Karachi in Pakistan after the Partition of India. In 1951 he used the money he saved up while he was looking after his mother to purchase a small shop. It was at this shop he opened a tiny dispensary with the help of a doctor who taught him basic medical care, he also encouraged his friends to give literary classes inside. Edhi had spent his life a simple man, and would continue to do so, he would sleep on a concrete bench outside the dispensary so he was available at any time to help people.
In 1957 a major flu epidemic swept Karachi, Edhi was quick to react, he set up tents on the outskirts of the city to distribute free immunizations. Grateful residents donated generously to Edhi and so did the rest of Pakistan after hearing of his deeds. With all the donation money he bought the rest of the building his dispensary was located in, and opened a free maternity centre and nursing school. Edhi Foundation was born.

Growth of Edhi Foundation
In the years that followed, Edhi Foundation grew through all of Pakistan. After the flu epidemic, a businessman donated a large sum to Edhi and with the money he purchased an ambulance vehicle which he drove himself. Today the Foundation has over 600 ambulances located all over the country. He himself continues to travel with call outs out of Karachi to the rest of the Sindh province, the response time and services the ambulances provide are renowned for being better than the municipal ones. Along with hospitals and and ambulance services, Edhi Foundation has set up clinics, maternity homes, mental asylums, homes for the physically handicapped, blood banks, orphanages, adoption centers, mortuaries, shelters for runaway children and battered women, schools, nursing courses and soup kitchens. A unique part of every Edhi centre is that there is a carriage outside each one, so that women who cannot afford to keep their children can simply place their baby in the basket and Edhi Foundation will place it into an orphanage and give them a free education.
Not only has the Foundation grew throughout all of Pakistan but it has grown internationally as well. Edhi's charity has been an integral part of every crises and disaster in the Muslim world, with himself going out personally to other countries to lend his own support and personally manage his charity's operations. The Foundation has been present in Afghanistan, Iraq, Chechnya, Bosnia, Sudan, Ethiopia and the countries affected by the Boxing Day Tsunami, to name a few.

Modern Legacy
Today not just in Pakistan, but in the Muslim world, Abdul Sattar Edhi has earned a reputation as being one of the most selfless and honorable human beings today. Despite his fame and reputation he continues to lead a simple life, he wears traditional Pakistani Shalwar Kameez, of which he only owns one or two, and he owns one pair of slippers, of which he has supposedly worn for the last twenty years. This is despite the fact the Edhi Foundation has a $10 million budget, out of which he takes nothing for himself. His son Faisal once stated that when the Foundation was setting up in Afghanistan, local staff had purchased chairs for guests and the press when a new center was being opened, when Edhi arrived he was furious because the money that was spent on the chairs could have been used to help people, that night he slept on the clinic floor with the ambulance drivers.
Today Edhi Foundation continues to grow. Edhi, looking to the future has stated that he aims to build a hospital every 500km in Pakistan. Although he is given the title Maulana out of respect, he himself dislikes the title, has he has never been to a religious school and he is not an Islamic cleric. Recently he was given a PhD and is now officially a doctor, and prefers to be referred to as what he actually is, and not what he is perceived to be. He is also famous for being very shy about his popularity and when people personally praise him for his work. He also refuses to accept donations from governments or formal religious organisations, because according to him they set 'conditions'. Both General Zia-ul-Haq and the Italian government sent him generous donations, which he sent back.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, as of 1997, Edhi Foundation's ambulance service, is the largest volunteer ambulance service in the world, he also personally holds the world record for having gone the longest time working without having taken a holiday. As of when the record was set, he still has not taken a day off work.
In 2000, he was awarded the International Balzan Prize for Humanity, Peace and Brotherhood
On March 26, 2005 Abdul Sattar Edhi was presented with Life Time Achievement Award by World Memon Organisation (WMO).

[SU] This Week's Discoveries

 BISMILLAH IREHMAN NIRAHIM

Assalamualikum,

A Gamma Ray Blast from the Past

gamma ray burst

Where scientists saw
the old bang

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, a great explosion took place. This week, astronomers say they saw it--from nearly 13 billion light-years away. Called GRB 050904, it's the most distant explosion ever detected.

Astronomers spotted the explosion, a 200-second gamma ray burst (GRB), thanks largely to NASA's Swift satellite, which was designed to detect GRBs. After noticing the burst, the Swift sent a message to ground-based scientists, saying, in effect, "Hey, lookee here!" When they did, they caught a glimpse of light that left its source nearly 13 billion years ago. That's less than a billion years after the Big Bang itself, according to current astronomical theory.

Scientists are only now starting to understand gamma ray bursts (GRBs), which were first detected in the late 1960s by U.S. military satellites watching for Soviet nuclear tests. They've been a source of scientific controversy ever since.

Many astronomers think GRBs happen when a massive star--one with, say, 50 times the mass of our sun--runs out of nuclear fuel. The star's core then collapses, producing the biggest and brightest sort of stellar explosion known to science. How bright? Try a million trillion times as bright as the sun. And what's left after the blast is another mysterious stellar entity: a black hole.

The Ships Beneath San Francisco

San Francisco

There are ships under
them thar streets

Construction workers building a high-rise, 650-unit condo complex in San Francisco have found something big beneath the street: the stern of a 125-foot wooden sailing ship dating back to California's Gold Rush.

Archaeologists excavating the ship say it was likely built in the 1820s, maybe as early as 1810. But it probably didn't make the trip to San Francisco until after 1848. That year, when San Francisco was a tiny village of less than a thousand people, a man noticed a nugget in a stream outside a sawmill he had been hired to build--and started the Gold Rush.

In 1849, more than 800 ships sailed to San Francisco, carrying "49ers" scrambling for a share of the hills' gold. Tens of thousands of people flocked in, and then headed toward what folks called the "Mother Lode." Gold-fevered crews left the ships along with the passengers, and before long, the city's cove was so full of abandoned ships that "ship-breaking yards" were doing brisk business breaking down vessels for timber and scrap.

Experts say the ship discovered under San Francisco now is at the site of one of those old ship-breaking yards. They say there are dozens more ships beneath the streets, too--relics of the lure of gold and the start of the city.

Thoroughbred Super Stud

the Darley Arabian

Thoroughbreds' big daddy--
the Darley Arabian

There are about half a million thoroughbred racehorses in the world. And, according to a new genetic study, fully 95 percent of them descend from just one super stud.

In fact, virtually all today's thoroughbreds come from just 28 "founder" horses: 3 sterling stallions and 25 well-built mares. But the big daddy was the Darley Arabian. Born in Syria in 1700 and brought to England 1704, the Darley Arabian fell in love with multiple English mares from 1706 to 1719--and made sure that his genes define today's thoroughbreds.

That's pretty much how the thoroughbred breed got its start--with Arabian stallions impregnating English mares to please British aristocrats hooked on "the sport of kings." There are all sorts of horses, from quick and agile quarter horses to noble Arabians, but thoroughbreds were bred specifically for speed and endurance.

Thoroughbreds came to the United States in 1730, when a son of the Darley Arabian came to Virginia. Surprisingly, horses in general didn't come to the Americas until Spanish conquistadors came a-calling in the early 16th century. Before that, the people here were horseless--even Native American tribes famous for their horsemanship today. There were modern horses in the Americas before 10,000 years ago, but they disappeared for reasons still unknown.

[SU] The Pak-Israel Scene - A critical view by Pakistan's ex-Ambassador to the UK

http://www.satribune.com/archives/200509/pix_wajid.jpg

His very strong PPP background must be kept in mind while reading the article.

LONDON, September 5: The rapid moves that Islamabad has been making indicate that Pakistan would soon become the 5th Muslim country to recognize Israel, the other four being Turkey, Egypt, Jordan and Mauritania while Morocco and Qatar only have limited trade ties. And the credit for it would not go to any elected civilian leader but to an absolute military dictator.

Since almost four years I have been writing that the recognition of Israel was part of the multifaceted agenda assigned to General Pervez Musharraf by powers that be in exchange for support to him for perpetuating his authoritarian rule against the democratic aspirations of the Pakistani people.

Pakistan held first ever formal and public contacts with Israel in Istanbul on September 1 at its own request brokered by Turkey. Officially described as a historic breakthrough, Islamabad has claimed that it had the backing of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and President Mahmood Abbas of the Palestinian State Authority. While Saudis have not yet come out publicly whether Pakistan's initiative had their support, a spokesman of the PLA, however, has nailed Islamabad's claim that the move had the blessing of President Mahmood Abbas.

The Palestinian Authority said on Thursday that it was "worried" about Pakistan's making high-level diplomatic contact with Israel despite its occupation of east Jerusalem and the West Bank. "It is not good to give Israel gifts before it really implements the peace process, not only in Gaza, but in Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem," deputy prime minister Nabil Shaath told the press. "We are worried about this because it's not a good time to start relations with Israel."

The West Bank leader of Islamist fundamentalist movement Hamas denounced the meeting and urged Islamic and Arab states not to fall into the trap of seeing the Gaza pullout as synonymous with the end of occupation as naively or advertently understood by Pakistani leader General Musharraf and his Foreign Minister Mian Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri.

"We condemn any relationship between an Islamic state and the Israelis and we ask Pakistan to go back on this agreement, especially as the Palestinian people have not yet been given their rights," said Hamas spokesman Hassan Yussef.

In order to defuse hostile domestic and foreign reaction as that of PLA, Musharraf has lost no time in stating that Islamabad would not recognize Israel until a Palestinian state was established while Israeli Prime Minister Sharon is insisting that he sees no final status talks with the Palestinians in the foreseeable future

According to diplomatic sources General Pervez Musharraf has been under too much pressure from his pro-Zionist Western mentors to recognize Israel. The Gaza pullout gave them the stick to browbeat the General into taking initiatives that would soon foreclose recognition. He had also been conveyed that a positive gesture could mean further extension in the fast expiring insurance cover to his absolute hold on power that seemed to be becoming more of an embarrassment to Washington currently marketing democracy as a global phenomenon.

In this context Assistant of Secretary of State Christina Rocca had not minced her words during her last visit to Islamabad where she made it categorically known in the shadow of countrywide allegations of massive pre-poll rigging in the local bodies elections, that the United States would like to see 2007 general elections to be completely transparent with even playing field for all the political parties and leaders.

In the footsteps of pro-democratic rumblings came the news that Musharraf has accepted the invitation to address the powerful American Jewish Congress following the visit of its key members to Islamabad as his value-added guests. Sources in Islamabad had hinted that things would start moving towards a thaw with Israel after Musharraf's September visit to the United States. They had failed to gauge the urgency propelling Islamabad.

In desperation Turkish intervention was sought, a meeting was brokered in Istanbul where Pakistan's Foreign Minister Kasuri had rushed to reveal that his country had decided to "engage" to hold talks with Israel after years as one of its harshest critics because of what it saw as the beginning of the end of Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories.

While PLA is extremely "worried" over a move described by it as premature, Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom, said Israel hoped to use the Pakistan talks as a springboard for broader diplomatic ties with Muslim and Arab countries that have long spurned it. Shalom believes that his meeting would "finally lead to a full diplomatic relationship with Pakistan as we would like to see with all Arab countries." "We made a huge breakthrough today...," Shalom said. "We think it will be a very positive signal to Israeli and Palestinian public opinion that there are some fruits from this withdrawal from Gaza."

In a wider move to rope in other Islamic states to recognizing Israel, Jordan's King Abdullah is also expected to visit Israel as early as next week to lend his support for Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's dismantling of Gaza settlements.

Israel's recognition is thus around the corner, not far away, a matter of months and not years. Not that, such a recognition would help Islamabad much though it would definitely help Musharraf's personally as the man who can deliver. When in Washington later this month, he would have a very depressive tale to tell to his bosses how much he had personally to suffer for fulfilling Israeli part of the agenda assigned to him.

When one looks at the speed behind his moves, it seems that Musharraf is half way through his agenda. He has already made solution of Kashmir issue easier by surrendering to India Pakistan's traditional stand on the UN resolution for plebiscite in Kashmir, which, not many years ago, for the civilian leaders it was something non-negotiable and sacrosanct.
Besides Kashmir, he has delivered a great deal on Pakistan's nuclear program. One of the most important issues assigned to him in the agenda was the decision to roll back Pakistan's nuclear program. With Dr. AQ Khan sitting on top of it, it would have been impossible for him to dislodge even a single brick. Now Dr Khan has been taken care of, rendered into a vegetable by design.

From the day he was relieved from KRL in 2001 Pakistan has been on the downward slide and Musharraf Administration has done it very shabbily to self-branding Pakistan as being a rogue nuclear state. His recent diatribe against Dr Khan directly involving him in the North Korean deals shows a method in the madness, making a scapegoat of Dr Khan while himself having the cake of his spoils and eating it too.

Instead of defending a program that has practically immunized the Pakistani generals from the Indian Army, Musharraf and his men sacrificed the man who gave them this virtual "Viagra". Our Generals are only capable of using their guns on unarmed civilians seeking their democratic and fundamental rights and have no shame in surrendering vital strategic locations such as Siachen to India without firing a shot.

Throughout the Cold War Washington's agenda was multifaceted with the sole objective of combating and minimizing the increasing influence of Soviet Union. In the process, on the one hand, Islamists were backed, picked up, pumped to counter Soviet influence in Middle East and on the other, Israel was nurtured, nourished and nuclearized to play the role of a bastion state to protect Western interests.

Pakistan under a military ruler, General Ayub Khan, was roped into CENTO (earlier known as Baghdad Pact) and SEATO to be part of Washington's strategy to counter China. Although Washington always had a soft corner for India but it lacked trust in it due to Sino-Indian friendship until 1962. It also realized that Pakistan under one-man rule would be more pliable and useful for its geo-strategic interests in the region as against a democratic India.

This was also the period when Pakistan continued to follow the Arab line on Israel. It tagged its stand on Tel Aviv's recognition to the policy of non-recognition by Saudi Arabia and other OIC members although it had no common borders with Israel, no clash of economic or strategic interests. Rather, both Israel and Pakistan shared a common raison d' etre, their religions as founding pillars of their states. Obviously Israel was left with no option but to befriend India and support it against Pakistan.

With the end of Cold War, Washington's Israel and Indian policies acquired a new thrust. Pakistan under a civilian and democratically elected Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was well oriented to rationalize its foreign policy objectives and pursue its goals to acquire greater respect in the comity of nations. While Bhutto stood by her independence, Pakistan's much too interfering military establishment went the other way. Though she refused to accept its dictations, it pursued its own agenda, both overtly and covertly, on Kashmir, relations with India, Israel and Afghanistan with Taliban in power was its sole domain beyond the reach of Pakistan's Foreign Office. She did not realize that those very Quislings who had been responsible for making a horrible example of her father would make her homeless.

Who could best serve the foreign interests? Not civilian leaders, was the answer. The Kargil invasion in 1999, a brainchild of Musharraf, seemingly brought the truth home to Washington once again: In Pakistan, it is the Army Chief that calls the shots.

Clinton Administration tried to save Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif by issuing a warning as late as September 1999 that it would not approve of a military coup in Pakistan. However, American generals and CIA who had developed very close liaison and understanding with their Pakistani counterparts since their deep throated collaboration from the days of the Afghan Jihad, saw in the General the person who could deliver for them on Kashmir, nuclear roll-back, Bush's crusade against the Jihadi terrorists and recognition of Israel.

And the horrendous tragedy of 9/11 led to the most profitable change in his fortune. A pariah military dictator with whom no leader of the civilized world, would shake hands became President Bush's blue-eyed boy and his Knight Templar in his crusade against terrorism. Just one line American ultimatum to him that "either you are with us or with them" brought about from him the most astounding U-turns in military history.

Now we come to the remaining part of Musharraf agenda which relates to recognizing Israel. Musharraf believes that once he recognizes Israel, he will buy a perpetual life-cover for his presidency from Washington. His "incidental" meeting with former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres early in the year that led to "brief talks" between the two had set the ball rolling towards the direction of recognition. Answering a question Musharraf on his meeting made matters further clear. "We are undertaking great efforts for this to happen."

Musharraf, it may be recalled, had first launched his recognize Israel' operation in June 2003 when he had said: "Recognizing Israel will not bring down the skies, if the Arabs are recognizing it, we also ought to reconsider our policies towards Israel." Looking for an opportune moment Musharraf again floated the idea in October 2003 when he said: "We have been in support of the Palestinian cause. If the peace process moves forward in justice, we can revise our policy with Israel."

Much like Musharraf's "incidental" meeting with Shimon Peres, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto too had a chance meeting with him at an international forum in Europe where the two shared the podium with other top leaders including Gorbachev. Like his invitation to Musharraf, Peres also invited Benazir Bhutto to visit Israel. While Musharraf seems to have dropped the long-standing position of Pakistan's support for the Palestinians, Ms Bhutto's response was more appropriate. She told Peres that she will consult Yasser Arafat (until then alive) before she says anything on the issue of Israel's recognition or accepts invitation to visit Tel Aviv.

The difference between Bhutto's stand and Musharraf's has been obvious. While she would not have liked to cause "worry" to the people of Palestine, Musharraf has gone more than an extra mile towards recognizing Israel since it would get him closer to Washington, a step if taken by any civilian leader in Pakistan, would have made Pakistani military establishment to hang him/her by the gallows.

In conclusion, I share the view expressed by PPP spokesman Senator Farhatullah Babar on the meeting of the two foreign ministers in Istanbul that interfaith dialogue is the need of the time. However, no unilateral decisions should be taken on issues that will have an impact both domestically and in the Muslim world.

Had the regime taken its langri-looli (handicapped, lame) Parliament into confidence, its decision would have become more credible. On important foreign policy issues, solo flight and individual decisions need to be avoided. Indeed, it is ironic that a regime that criticized former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto for meeting with a former Israeli Prime Minister at a Socialist International Conference has now sought the good offices of Turkey to facilitate the meeting with the Foreign Minister of Israel. An apology to Ms Bhutto would surely be in order.

[SU] Pak-Israel Meeting

Pakistan's Gesture to Israel Raises Eyebrows

A handshake between the Foreign Ministers of Israel and Pakistan has left many in the Muslim world slackjawed, with others reconsidering their past positions towards the Jewish state.

By Zahed Amanullah, September 12, 2005

When Pakistan's Foreign Minister Khursheed Kasuri met with his Israeli counterpart Silvan Shalom in Istanbul, Turkey two weeks ago in a surprise meeting, Muslim countries from Malaysia to Iran called to register their astonishment. Although it was soon acknowledged that the two countries had held secret talks for much of the past decade, Pakistan was quick to mention that any full diplomatic recognition - currently provided by Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, and Mauritania - would be linked to Palestinian statehood and independence (a recent coup in Mauritania has not affected its ties). Naturally, Israelis have been optimistic while opinions among Pakistanis have ranged from mixed to hostile. Although the move was initially met with approval from Jordan and Turkey (who were the chief facilitators), there was concern from Palestinians (who initially said they weren't consulted) that their struggle would be sidelined. "There is a difference between notifying us and claiming that we gave the meeting the green light," said Palestinian Deputy Prime Minister Nabil Shaath. "Israel has done nothing that a country such as Pakistan should reward with a prize." However, Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas later said he approved the talks in advance. Israel's disengagement from Gaza is given as the official reason, with the reciprocity aimed at fostering further concessions from Israel toward the Palestinians. But the move is also seen as a means to temper the growing ties between Israel and India, its chief regional rival. "India may have to now swallow a bitter pill," says Indian lecturer P.R. Kumaraswamy. "In the past New Delhi competed with Pakistan to seek Arab support, now it is reduced to doing the same to retain its friendship with Israel." Also, there is the added support from American circles (though Kasuri denies they were notified). The move would help defuse tensions over nuclear proliferation, giving Pakistan the tolerance that India and Israel enjoy. And as for the opposition from hardliners in Pakistan, not only did protests in Pakistan fail to materialise, but further opposition from India against the ties may win further support. Highlighting the sensitivities are the details of an official visit from Pakistan to Gaza next month (made possible now by the Israeli contact), where Pakistan insists it is following the lead of the Palestinian Authority. "The future direction of Pakistan-Israel ties depends on decisive moves on the Palestine issue," said Pakistani foreign office spokesman Naeem Khan, who reiterated that Pakistan expects an independent Palestinian State with Jerusalem as its capital. As for the long term prospects, there is still more eyebrow raising to come - both Musharraf and Kasuri are scheduled to address the American Jewish Congress during a visit to the United States this week.

[SU] This Week's Discoveries

 BISMILLAH IREHMAN NIRAHIM

Assalamualikum,

The Fluffy Stuff of Comets

Tempel 1

Deep Impact strikes the solar system's Tempel

Scientists used to call comets "dirty snowballs." Now they call them "snowy dirtballs." But comet Tempel 1, it seems, is
all fluff.

The Deep Impact team, which smashed a probe into Tempel on July 4, has finished its first homework assignment. Scientific surprise #1: the 9-mile-long Tempel comet is just a loose collection of very fine dust and ice, held together by gravity. Said one Deep Impact scientist, "You could probably dig from one side to the other with your hands--it's that weak."

Scientific surprise #2: infrared measurements taken by the Spitzer Space Telescope at the moment of Deep Impact's deep impact show that, inside, Tempel contains a relatively high concentration of organic compounds, including methyl cyanide. And biologists say methyl cyanide is key to the reactions that form DNA.

Many scientists have long thought that comets are made of the primordial stuff that existed when the solar system formed some 4.6 billion years ago. Many also think that frequent collisions with water-bearing comets in those early times brought Earth its oceans--and perhaps the organic chemicals necessary for life, too. The fluffy stuff inside Tempel may well have strengthened their case.

Spray-On Skin

human skin

You have amazing skin

Doctors may now have a way to spray new skin tissue onto people with severe burns. Hospitals in Australia have already used the technique on some patients. So has a team in England. Now they're looking to see whether the sprayed-on skin becomes a fully functional part of the human body.

Doctors say the technique works like this. First, they take some healthy skin from the patient, separate out the surface cells, and culture those cells in a lab. Then, they take more healthy skin from the patient, and cut it into tiny squares. The cultured cells are then put in a suspension and sprayed onto the tiny squares, where they combine, amazingly, to form new skin.

Of course, a healthy human body makes new skin for itself all the time. The top layer of your epidermis is pretty much a patchwork of dead skin cells. You shed millions and millions every day, and new cells grow all time to take their place. In fact, on average, you completely regenerate your epidermal skin once each month.

Beneath your regenerating epidermis, your dermis houses the thicket of blood vessels, nerves, and glands you need to stay sensitive (touchy-feely) and cool (perspiration before inspiration). The thickness of the two layers together varies a lot, from as little as half a millimeter on your eyelids to as much as 4 millimeters on your palms and soles. A layer of subcutaneous tissue, mostly fat, anchors your skin to everything else. It's crucial, too, for nutrients and insulation. But doctors aren't likely to make spray-on fat.

Mysterious Matisse Reemerges

The Plum Blossoms

"Plum" rediscovered

New York's Museum of Modern Art has acquired "The Plum Blossoms," a major painting by French master Henri Matisse. Worth at least $20 million, the painting's whereabouts have been unknown for 35 years.

Painted in 1948, "The Plum Blossoms" was last publicly displayed in Paris in 1970. After that, an unidentified private collector purchased it, and the rest of the world largely lost track of the work. Then, this summer, a Manhattan art dealer approached the Museum of Modern Art about buying the piece. The museum jumped at the chance to add "a monument of art" to its collection.

Many consider Matisse the most important French painter of the 20th century. Born into a middle-class family in 1869, he showed little interest in art until he was 20 years old. Yet by 40, he was a recognized leader of the Parisian avant-garde. At a time when many questioned "modernist" artistic sensibilities, that didn't always win him fans. One early critic accused him of "mistreating square meters of canvas." Those meters are now worth millions.

Matisse's later years were less Parisian avant-garde, more French Riviera--but he never stopped experimenting with new means of expression, including colorful paper cutouts that are now as famous as his paintings. Of those paintings, "The Plum Blossoms" is one of the last Matisse made before his death in 1954. It once hung in his studio in the south of France. Now it will hang in the Museum of Modern Art's collection of nearly 100 Matisse works.

Sight of the Week:
Satellites See Katrina's Effects

Hurricane Katrina's horrible effects are sadly clearer than they were 10 days ago, when many believed that New Orleans had been spared a direct hit. It was not spared. Nor was Gulfport or Biloxi in Mississippi, or Mobile in Alabama, or many other areas along the Gulf Coast.

For an unfiltered overview of Katrina's effects, check out these satellite photos from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). They are compiled into maps that you can click on to zoom in, with a remarkable amount of detail.

Hitler Was a Christian; The Holocaust was caused by Christian fundamentalism

Hitler Was a Christian;
The Holocaust was caused by Christian fundamentalism
http://www.evilbible.com/hitler_was_christian.htm
History is currently being distorted by the millions of Christians who lie to have us believe that the Holocaust was not a Christian deed. Through subterfuge and concealment, many of todayÂ’s Church leaders and faithful Christians have camouflaged the Christianity of Adolf Hitler and have attempted to mark him an atheist, a pagan cult worshipper, or a false Christian in order to place his misdeeds on those with out Jesus. However, from the earliest formation of the Nazi party and throughout the period of conquest and growth, Hitler expressed his Christian support to the German citizenry and soldiers. Those who would make Hitler an atheist should turn their eyes to history books before they address their pews and chat rooms.

Considering that Christianity has thus far been incapable of producing an unbiased, educated follower which speaks the truth, (I havenÂ’t encountered any), I have been forced to dispel the myth by writing this essay. It is not until I bring up his speeches, my personal info on the Nazi regime and their tactics that a Christian will begin to question what their clergy told them. (I am the offspring of a German soldier. My Opa served under Hitler in WW2 and my father was raised during the time of the Nazi regime. This is important information to take into consideration for I am privy to some info that most Americans do not know. It is common for American media and education institutions to lie to their citizens concerning Nazi Germany.) So, in presenting this information I must break it into four parts: 1) Facts about Hitler and his involvement with the Church. 2) How the Church was the catalyst for anti- Semitism. 3) Facts concerning how the Nazi regime drilled these beliefs into Germanic society. 4) Quotes Hitler made which prove he had a disdain for atheism/occultism, upheld his Christian faith, and hated Jews due to his Christianity.

HitlerÂ’s involvement with the Church:

a) Hitler was baptized as Roman Catholic during infancy in Austria.

b) As Hitler approached boyhood he attended a monastery school. (On his way to school young Adolf daily observed a stone arch which was carved with the monasteryÂ’s coat of arms bearing a swastika.)

c) Hitler was a communicant and an altar boy in the Catholic Church.

d) As a young man he was confirmed as a “soldier of Christ.” His most ardent goal at the time was to become a priest. Hitler writes of his love for the church and clergy: “I had excellent opportunity to intoxicate myself with the solemn splendor of the brilliant church festivals. As was only natural, the abbot seemed to me, as the village priest had once seemed to my father, the highest and most desirable ideal.” -Adolf Hitler (Mein Kampf)

e) Hitler was NEVER excommunicated nor condemned by his church. Matter of fact the Church felt he was JUST and “avenging for God” in attacking the Jews for they deemed the Semites the killers of Jesus.

f) Hitler, Franco and Mussolini were given VETO power over whom the pope could appoint as a bishop in Germany, Spain and Italy. In turn they surtaxed the Catholics and gave the money to the Vatican. Hitler wrote a speech in which he talks about this alliance, this is an excerpt: “The fact that the Vatican is concluding a treaty with the new Germany means the acknowledgement of the National Socialist state by the Catholic Church. This treaty shows the whole world clearly and unequivocally that the assertion that National Socialism [Nazism] is hostile to religion is a lie.” Adolf Hitler, 22 July 1933, writing to the Nazi Party

Hitler and the Popeg) Hitler worked CLOSELY with Pope Pius in converting Germanic society and supporting the church. The Church absorbed Nazi ideals and preached them as part of their sermons in turn Hitler placed Catholic teachings in public education. This photo depicts Hitler with Archbishop Cesare Orsenigo, the papal nuncio in Berlin. It was taken On April 20, 1939, when Orsenigo celebrated HitlerÂ’s birthday. The celebrations were initiated by Pacelli (Pope Pius XII) and became a tradition.

Each April 20, Cardinal Bertram of Berlin was to send “warmest congratulations to the Fuhrer in the name of the bishops and the dioceses in Germany with “fervent prayers which the Catholics of Germany are sending to heaven on their altars.” (If you would like to know more about the secret dealings of Hitler and the Pope I recommend you get a book titled: Hitler’s Pope: The Secret History of Pius XII, by John Cornwell)

h) Due to Hitler’s involvement with the Church he began enacting doctrines of the Church as law. He outlawed all abortion, raged a death war on all homosexuals, and demanded corporal punishment in schools and home. Many times Hitler addressed the church and promised that Germany would implement its teachings: “The National Socialist State professes its allegiance to positive Christianity. It will be its honest endeavor to protect both the great Christian Confessions in their rights, to secure them from interference with their doctrines (Lehren), and in their duties to constitute a harmony with the views and the exigencies of the State of today.” –Adolf Hitler, on 26 June 1934, to Catholic bishops to assure them that he would take action against the new pagan propaganda “Providence has caused me to be Catholic, and I know therefore how to handle this Church.” -Adolf Hitler, reportedly to have said in Berlin in 1936 on the enmity of the Catholic Church to National Socialism

How Christianity was the catalyst of the Holocaust:

Hitler’s anti-Semitism grew out of his Christian education. Austria and Germany were majorly Christian during his time and they held the belief that Jews were an inferior status to Aryan Christians. The Christians blamed the Jews for the killing of Jesus. Jewish hatred did not actually spring from Hitler, it came from the preaching of Catholic priests and Protestant ministers throughout Germany for hundreds of years. The Protestant leader, Martin Luther, himself, held a livid hatred for Jews and their Jewish religion. In his book, “On the Jews and their Lies,” Luther set the standard for Jewish hatred in Protestant Germany up until World War 2. Hitler expressed a great admiration for Martin Luther constantly quoting his works and beliefs.

Now, you must remember before Hitler rose to Chancellor of Germany the country was in a deep economic depression due to the Versailles treaty. The Versailles treaty demanded that Germans made financial reparations for the previous war and Germany simply was not self sufficient enough in order to pay the debt. Hitler was the leader that raised Germany out of the depression and brought them back to a world recognized power. Due to his annulment of the financial woes of the Germanic people he became their redeemer and they anointed him as the leader of the German Reich Christian Church in 1933. This placed him in power of the German Christian Socialist movement which legislates their political and religious agendas. It united all denominations, mainly the Protestant/Catholic and Lutheran people to instill faith in a national Christianity.

How the Nazi Regime converted the people:

a) In the 1920s, Hitler’s German Workers’ Party (pre Nazi term) adopted a “Programme” with twenty-five points (the Nazi version of a constitution). In point twenty-four, their intent clearly demonstrates, from the very beginning, their stand in favor of a “positive” Christianity: “We demand liberty for all religious denominations in the State, so far as they are not a danger to it and do not militate against the morality and moral sense of the German race. The Party, as such, stands for positive Christianity, but does not bind itself in the matter of creed to any particular confession...”

b) The Nazi regime started a youth movement which preached its agenda to impressionable children. Hitler backed up the notion that all people need faith and religious education: “By helping to raise man above the level of bestial vegetation, faith contributes in reality to the securing and safeguarding of his existence. Take away from present-day mankind its education-based, religious- dogmatic principles-- or, practically speaking, ethical-moral principles-- by abolishing this religious education, but without replacing it by an equivalent, and the result will be a grave shock to the foundations of their existence.” – Adolf Hitler (Mein Kampf)

c) The Nazi regime began to control schools insisting that Christianity was taught.

d) The Nazi regime included anti-Semitic Christian writings in textbooks and they were not removed from Christian doctrines until 1961.

e) The Nazi regime having full blown power over the people began to forcibly convert all its military.

Nazi Belt Bucklef) The Nazi regime forced the German soldiers to wear religious symbols such as the swastika and they placed religious sayings on military gear. An example here is this German army belt buckle (I believe my Opa had one) which reads “Gott Mit Uns”. For those of you who do not speak German it is translated as “God With Us”.

g) The German troops were often forced to get sprinkled with holy water and listen to a sermon by a Catholic priest before going out on a maneuver.

h) The Nazis created a secret service called the “SS Reich” that would act as spies on the dealings of other citizens. If anyone was suspected of heresy (Going not only against the Socialist party but CHURCH DOCTRINE) they would be prosecuted.

Quotes from Hitler:

HitlerÂ’s speeches and proclamations, even more clearly, reveal his faith and feelings toward a Christianized Germany. Nazism presents an embarrassment to Christianity and demonstrates the danger of their faith So they try to pin him on other theistic views. The following words from Hitler show his disdain for atheism, and pagan cults, and reveal the strength of his Christian feelings:

“National Socialism is not a cult-movement-- a movement for worship; it is exclusively a ‘volkic’ political doctrine based upon racial principles. In its purpose there is no mystic cult, only the care and leadership of a people defined by a common blood-relationship... We will not allow mystically- minded occult folk with a passion for exploring the secrets of the world beyond to steal into our Movement. Such folk are not National Socialists, but something else-- in any case something which has nothing to do with us. At the head of our programme there stand no secret surmisings but clear-cut perception and straightforward profession of belief. But since we set as the central point of this perception and of this profession of belief the maintenance and hence the security for the future of a being formed by God, we thus serve the maintenance of a divine work and fulfill a divine will-- not in the secret twilight of a new house of worship, but openly before the face of the Lord… Our worship is exclusively the cultivation of the natural, and for that reason, because natural, therefore God-willed. Our humility is the unconditional submission before the divine laws of existence so far as they are known to us men.” -Adolf Hitler, in Nuremberg on 6 Sept.1938. [Christians have always accused Hitler of believing in pagan cult mythology. What is written here clearly expresses his stand against cults.]

“We were convinced that the people needs and requires this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out.” -Adolf Hitler, in a speech in Berlin on 24 Oct. 1933 [This statement clearly refutes modern Christians who claim Hitler as favoring atheism. Hitler wanted to form a society in which ALL people worshipped Jesus and considered any questioning of such to be heresy. The Holocaust was like a modern inquisition, killing all who did not accept Jesus. Though more Jews were killed then any other it should be noted that MANY ARYAN pagans and atheists were murdered for their non-belief in Christ.]

Here Hitler uses the Bible and his Christianity in order to attack the Jews and uphold his anti-Semitism:

"My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God’s truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was His fight for the world against the Jewish poison. To-day, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed His blood upon the Cross. As a Christian I have no duty to allow my self to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice… And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly it is the distress that daily grows . For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people." –Adolf Hitler, in a speech on 12 April 1922 (Norman H. Baynes, ed. The Speeches of Adolf Hitler, April 1922-August 1939, Vol. 1 of 2, pp. 19-20, Oxford University Press, 1942)

"Christianity could not content itself with building up its own altar; it was absolutely forced to undertake the destruction of the heathen altars. Only from this fanatical intolerance could its apodictic faith take form; this intolerance is, in fact, its absolute presupposition." -Adolf Hitler Mein Kampf (It is quite obvious here that Hitler is referring to destructing the Judaism alters on which Christianity was founded.)

"The personification of the devil as the symbol of all evil assumes the living shape of the Jew." -Adolf Hitler Mein Kampf (The idea of the devil and the Jew came out of medieval anti-Jewish beliefs based on interpretations from the Bible. Martin Luther, and teachers after him, continued this “tradition” up until the 20th century.)

"With satanic joy in his face, the black-haired Jewish youth lurks in wait for the unsuspecting girl whom he defiles with his blood, thus stealing her from her people." -Adolf Hitler Mein Kampf (It is common in war for one race to rape another so that they can “defile” the race and assimilate their own. Hitler speaks about this very tactic here.)

“The best characterization is provided by the product of this religious education, the Jew himself. His life is only of this world, and his spirit is inwardly as alien to true Christianity as his nature two thousand years previous was to the great founder of the new doctrine. Of course, the latter made no secret of his attitude toward the Jewish people, and when necessary he even took the whip to drive from the temple of the Lord this adversary of all humanity, who then as always saw in religion nothing but an instrument for his business existence. In return, Christ was nailed to the cross, while our present- day party Christians debase themselves to begging for Jewish votes at elections and later try to arrange political swindles with atheistic Jewish parties-- and this against their own nation.”–Adolf Hitler (Mein Kampf)

"Â…the fall of man in paradise has always been followed by his expulsion." -Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf (See Genesis Chapter 3 where humankind is cast from Eden for their sins. Hitler compares this to the need to exterminate the Jews for their sin against Christ.)

“Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord.” –Adolf Hitler (Mein Kampf)

“The anti-Semitism of the new movement [Christian Social movement] was based on religious ideas instead of racial knowledge.” –Adolf Hitler Mein Kampf (This quote is very interesting for it disperses the idea that Hitler raged war due to being an Aryan supremacist. He states quite clearly that he has a problem with Jews for their belief not race. That is why many German Jews died in WW2 regardless of their Aryan nationality.)

“Only in the steady and constant application of force lies the very first prerequisite for success. This persistence, however, can always and only arise from a definite spiritual conviction. Any violence which does not spring from a firm, spiritual base, will be wavering and uncertain.” –Adolf Hitler Mein Kampf (Here Hitler is admitting that his war against the Jews were so successful because of his strong Christian Spirituality.)

Quotes from Other Nazis about Hitler and Religion:

"Around 1937, when Hitler heard that at the instigation of the party and the SS vast numbers of his followers had left the church because it was obstinately opposing his plans, he nevertheless ordered his chief associates, above all Goering and Gobbels, to remain members of the church. He too would remain a member of the Catholic Church, he said, although he had no real attachment to it. And in fact he remained in the church until his suicide." (Inside the Third Reich by Albert Speer page 95-96)

[SU] 3 questions [Must Read]

3 questions

There was a young man who went overseas to study for
quite a long time.
When he returned, he asked his parents to find him a
religious scholar or
any expert who could answer his 3 questions. Finally,
his parents were able
to find a Muslim scholar.

Young man: Who are you? Can you answer my questions?

Scholar: I am one of Allah (SubHana Wa Ta'ala )'s
slaves and insha-Allah
(God willing), I will be able to answer your
questions.

Young man : Are you sure? A lot of Professors and
experts were not able to
answer my questions.

Scholar: I will try my best, with the help of
Allah(SubHana Wa Ta'ala).

Young Man: I have 3 questions:

1. Does God exist?
If so, show me His shape.

2. What is takdir (fate)?

3. If shaitan (Devil) was created from the fire, why
at the end he will be
thrown to hell that also created from fire. It
certainly will not hurt him
at all, since Shaitan (Devil) and the hell were
created from fire. Did God
not think of it this far?

Suddenly, the Scholar slapped the young man's face
very hard.

Young Man (feeling pain): Why do you get angry with
me?

Scholar: I am not angry. The slap is my answer to your
three questions.

Young Man: I really don't understand.

Scholar: How do you feel after I slapped you?

Young Man: Of course, I felt the pain.

Scholar: So do you believe that pain exists?

Young Man: Yes.

Scholar: Show me the shape of the pain!

Young Man: I cannot.

Scholar: That is my first answer. All of us feel God's
existence without
being able to see His shape......... Last night, did
you dream that you
will be slapped by me?

Young Man: No.

Scholar: Did you ever think that you will get a slap
from me, today?

Young Man: No.

Scholar: That is takdir (fate)........ My hand that I
used to slap you, what is it created from?

Young Man: It is created from skin.

Scholar: How about your face, what is it created from?

Young Man: Skin.

Scholar: How do you feel after I slapped you?

Young Man: In pain.

Scholar: Even though Shaitan (Devil) and also the hell
were created from
the fire, if Allah wants, insha-Allah (God willing),
the hell will become a
very painful place for Shaitan (Devil).

[SU] psychology of luv...

Don't be too good I will miss you.
Don't be too caring, I might like you.
Don't be too sweet, I might fall for you.
It's hard for me to love you when you won't love me after all...
Bottomline : A person who makes me loves him/her is actually a person who loves me more than I love him/her.

If someone comes into your life
and becomes a part of you
but for some reasons he couldn't stay,
don't cry too much...
just be glad that your paths crossed
and somehow he made you happy even for a while.
Bottomline : Time will tell, If he's yours he will come back

Two tear drops were floating down the river.
One teardrop said to the other,
"I'm the teardrop of a girl who loved a man and lost him. Who are you?"
"I'm the teardrop of the man who regret letting a girl go..."

Bottomline : Nobody will sympathise a person who constantly let chances passes by without making any efforts to salvage. We normally don't realise how important our loved and closed ones are until they left us, we'll start reminiscences which results  misery.

Love can make you happy although often times it hurts.
But love is only special if you give it to which it's worth.
Bottomline : If you found someone who truly appreciates you, He/she deserves more of your love.

What If someone tells you this: I don't believe in courtship.
It's just a waste of time. If I love the person, I'll tell her right away.
But for you I will make an exception...
just love me now and I'll court you forever...
Bottomline : Love needs time to realise, there might be love at first sight but it takes time to let one gradually discover their affection towards another, miss him/her when he/she is not around, hope to hear from he/she when the person has not written or called.

It's always better to have found the courage to love even if you lose
it in the end rather than never found love because you were too afraid
of the challenge.
Bottomline : Don't give up if you face or think that you have competitors. It's always better to try, if you suceed, the reward is more than you can expect. but if you don't try or don't summon up the courage, you might lose the one you like/love forever...

The greatest challenge in our life is to find someone who knows our flaws
and differences and yet still willingly embraces you with so much love.
Bottomline : Love is a means of self giving and self sacrificsing, if he/she knows your flaws and still willing to accept you, continue to like/love you as you are or even more, boy, you are lucky! This person truly deserves your love and affection.

The spaces between our fingers were created so that another person's fingers could fill them in.
Bottomline : open your heart, let people love you, never Doubt their intentions, sincerity can be felt  by the heart.

When you love, it is not for you to be understood but for you To understand; not for you to take but for you to be taken; to listen not to dictate; to sacrifice and not to demand; not to count or measure but to love.
